I feel this is an issue that needs to be addressed to the community who is participating in PGL Tournaments. I read through the rules and regulations for this tournament and found myself feeling repulsed by the fact players needing to bring their own Xbox 360 HDD.

I understand that PGL would like to speed up the pace at their tournaments by players bringing their HDD's for the Xbox 360 but I feel that it is rather inappropriate for an organization to people to bring a device of such value. With that said, this gives players freedom to edit the PGL map variants in forge giving them advantages if players gain hosting rights using their own HDD. You make believe that it wont happen, but it will, even the slightest variations to spawns, where they face, where they are placed can change the tone of an entire game, making the tournament an unfair experience for players being victim to cheaters.

PGL is not a cheap tournament to attend, and I believe that if PGL wants to produce good quality pro gaming, they need to take matters into their hands to give superior service to their customers. This rule, requiring players to bring their own HDD gave me an instant feeling carelessness to the community who participates in these tournaments. This needs to be changed.

Bring a memory stick it was just because people were complaining about it at other events... so to counter this it was made available for you to just bring your own because a few people had them and others did not.

Believe me I see exaclty where you are coming from...... and you know what I couldnt agree with you more in that respect...... a HDD is of value and the maps could be altered by a participant......... here is the thought process for the HDD for this time anyway......

HDD will allow people to move around faster, we would be waiting 5-10 mins sometimes for people to get their profiles just perfect and even though we put a rush on it, this continued to happen time and time again..........

People would change their names in everygame..... this would be really hard to keep stats for, although this was also told not to be done, people felt the need to change their names over and over.......

Memory cards would fill up fast, you would have to delete profiles to add new one this still takes up a considerable amount of time.....

Units with hard drives run faster.... it was noticable

Memory cards would not hold the maps...... this caused mass confusion at times with people playing the wrong maps.....

So really unless someone wants to buy PGL all hard drives for this next event this is definately our best option..... people bring their hard drives makes it go faster and smoother, event wise......

As for people that mod the maps....... If caught changing the modifications of any map type or gametype, the player caught cheating and his team will be kicked out of all PGL tournaments both online and LAN....... we will be keeping a close eye, as well as the opposing team......

In regards to the name and profile info:

What PGL should do is take down every person's gamertag (ie: RoYaL 1) and make them use that Gt for the whole tourney. if they do not use that gamertag, they should be penalized and/or disqualified. I'm sure emblem's don't have to be changed and it shouldn't take you more then 30 seconds to change your button settings if you need to, so time shouldn't be a factor as long as PGL cracks down on people who need to change their names 24/7.

You can check if the map was edited as when its edited an save the map will said to be create by a different gamertag then the PGL official one so if cheated is though of it can be easily checked aswell even with the $100 value of the HDD + content value when you put it in the xbox you will be playing on it when not playing on it goes back in your bag CANT BE TAKEN this way its simple really I dont see any problems and see bringing an HD as a great Idea to speed up games aswell as having all the new DLC ready for tournements.

for people that think that HDD is a bad idea. Time yourself as fast as you can to create a profile without xbl and make it a 6 letter name. see how fast you can do it. probly takes like 2min for you right? well think about all the random people coming that dont go as fast as us so turn 2min into 4min. think about 4min X 8 console switchs thats 32min. try and stay still and not do anything for 32min. well thats what people watching will do in short bursts.

In summery:
-Waste's time to make accounts over and over
-people change there names over and over
-theres slow randoms that dont know what there doing
-personly I dont like waiting for others to make an account
-mo' money for PGL if someone stole one (its small, light and easy to take off)

Compaired to coming with a profile with settings all made up and not needing to wait for people. If you feel you are going to loose your HDD think about this. if you leave you HDD in a box someone needs to put there HDD in to use there own account. so they will say something, and you wont loose your HDD. if you think its going to get stolen wear something with big pockets.

remember it shows the date the map and gametype was created and saved...... if anyone loads a map created later than that date we will consider it modded

not only that, but it also allows host box's name to be changed. you have no idea how annoying it is seeing a name you don't recognize dying on your screen.

I agree with what is said right here, excellent idea. that way things can be cone long before people actually come to attend the tourney.

This works in THEORY, we had TONS of people changing there GT in the Regina tourny so in Toon we made that rule and over 60% of the people didn't follow it. You would be surprised at how many people don't fully understand rules, even with being penalized/disqualified. Having players bring the HDD is just a short term fix to the problem and if someone wants to donate $$$ i'll go and buy PGL new HDD's.

WTF is the point of changing you're GT on the run? That just seems ignorant:confused:

so i have a HDD but no maps and it's a 120GB hard drive. I don't have a 360 right now so does at mean i can't come because i don't have the maps.

Bring your HDD and we can have you save the recent maps when they get played. I will most likely be doing this with a few other peoples HDD's.

There is no speed difference between the 20gb and the 120.
