Can we bring our own monitors to play on at the event?

PGL has two different kinds of monitors. You have to bring your own headphones.
The first are these awful 26 inch monitors with brutal response time and picture. So grainy and the color is off. These do have sound though and I believe a standard 3.5mm headphone jack, I don't know the brand. The C and D stations are all these.
The other monitors are from Westinghouse and are a beauty to play on, this is what you see on the mainstage. They are 22 inch monitors with 2ms response I think, (I play on 2ms at home and they felt like it at least) and great picture. These do not have sound though so you need to being headphones, I think Senn 555's plug directly into the PGL mixamp, and if you bring Astros you need the large adaptor to use PGL's mixamp, but I would recommend you just bring your Astro mixamp. (Optical cable makes things a lot easier, I don't remember if you can use your Astro mixamp without the optical cable the way they have the picture set up.)
The only downside to these monitors is if there is a livestream then you don't get to play on whatever resolution you choose and have to play on 720 X something or something similar that's kinda weird on mainstage. If there is no livestream or you are playing on station B I'd recommend you play on the resolution MLG uses. Station B is always set up for whatever resolution you want though, and with all Westinghouse monitors.

edit: looks so shitty on my monitor, oh well.
Hmmm, thats some pretty lame shit. can we just bush league it and use our own monitors for when where not on main stage? i would even be willing to let me monitor sit there all weekend and let everyone use it for c & d stations instead of those absolutely terrible monitors.

Ok I may not be a "Pro Gamer" buuuuut if your good shouldn't you be good on everything? If your just going on hope or what we like to call a "wish sandwich"(if you get the reference good on your parents if not ask around) then I guess you can ask around before a tournament and then complain after you lose. But don't worry if you complain enough and are good enough you'll be fine at the tournament because only the "best" win on every station

Yeah you're right, I mean the best Nascar driver should still win even if he's driving a Prius around the track right?
Not to be a dick, but it makes a huge difference. Obviously a top team is still going to beat a weaker team, but when two evenly matched teams meet up it can change the outcome of the game. That's why at Regina we made MC play us on Mainstage, we didn't want the monitors with the weird resolution.
With that said I think that the Westinghouses can play on 1680 x 1050 (MLG's resoution) and it is great. Such a solid monitor. Just be sure to bring headphones with a big jack. I'm not sure what the actual name is, but you need an adaptor so that they could plug into a guitar amp if that makes sense.

I'm not sure what 1920 x 1080 is like. Is that the resoution that sort of stretches the picture up and down as opposed to left and right?
1680 x 1050 is the resolution you see on MLG VoD, although they often won't show the black bars at the bottom and the top of the screen. There are black bars at the bottom and top of the screen and it makes it look like you are watching a movie.

This is what you need. It's a 1/8" to 1/4" adapter. The 1/8" part is where you plug in your green plug (same as headphone jack) and the 1/4" part is what you plug into the mix amp I'm assuming?

1920 x 1080 is 1080p, which is the highest available resolution on most monitors. It is often referred to as "full HD". It's widescreen so it might have the black bars, but I haven't ever tried it so I wouldn't know.

Halo is played in a 4:3 aspect ratio which goes to 16:9. MLG Resolution is 16:10 which means there is black bars. If you play on a 1920x1080 resolution that is 16:9 so there is no stretching and is how the game should be played. Ive played on 1680x1050 and 1920x1080 blows it outta the water.

They get plugged into a Mixamp. The mixamp lets you play with the sound, but you cannot balance game sound and voice sound like the Astro Mixamp.

The x3s are wireless and need its own special thing to send audio to the headset. You have to plug the green cord into this special adaptor. I dont think you can get the x3s to work with a Astro Mixamp.

You should be fine on the Westinghouses, on the other monitors you should be able to plug in for audio, but i don't think you'll be able to use the Astro Mixamp so you may not have voice.

Yes, I believe so. You will most likely need the adaptor Seamonn posted if your x1s have a 3.5mm jack.

Astro Mixamps are not provided for you. PGL Mixamps are, they are very different. Now I really do not know anything about the x3s. How do they get power and how do they get sound? 3.5mm jack or what?

They get power through a USB plug in. So I could just plug it into the xbox USB.

Allright powerwise you'll be fine.
For the audio I think that you'll simply be able to plug the red/white cords into the PGL mixamp as they are shown in the picture you posted. (If that makes sense.) I don't think you'll be able to use voice. This is all for the Westinghouses, on the other monitors I'm not sure if your headphones will work, but they do have speakers provided on those monitors.
Again I have never used x3s and am really not sure if they will or will not work with the PGL mixamp, this is all just my guesswork.
As for the PGL mixamp I do not have a picture, its a big one though and is probably about three and a half times the size of the Astro mixamp. I'm pretty sure it's intended to be used for electric instruments and you cannot daisy chain or use any form of in game voice with it.

So if the PGL Mixamp is connected through Optical cable correct? If so (just like you said) I could plug the Red/White cables into the PGL Mixamp and then put the 3.5mm jack into that little box that I have into the picture. Then I could do what I have in the third picture and it should work.
Lol its worth a shot.

It's not. If you have an Astro Mixamp and an optical cable then you're set.
Anyway, just bring everything you have and you should be able to get sound one way or another.
PGL should really have a section of the site that shows off all the equipment they use. At Regina I would have had no sound, but CHELACK let me borrow his whole Astro set up. :)

Remember that is just a guess, and I'm very picky about the equipment I play on so what I say is obviously going to be a bit biased. I'd rather have it in a hotel for money reasons.
The cheapest hotel near the WEM is $180 a night. And if you stay away from the hotel it'll cost you when you pay the cab driver.
With that said I understand how big of an opportunity this is for PGL so it's acceptable I suppose.

That hotel was $180 a night last I checked, and PGL did not have any Samsungs, those were Westinghouses.
Lol. Which hotel did you look at?
EDIT: Why doesnt PGL get a discount at a hotel?

I don't remember, West Ed Inn or something? It's the one across the street.
Not sure about this, but I think CHELACK/Boorazzle had a discount lined up with Ramada.

If the event is at WEM there is no point in staying at the Ramada, there are no bus routs close that would take you quickly to west ed, and it would be a nightmare with all the transferring you would have to do because of it's location. If you guys need help with that kinda thing just ask me ill be more then happy.

Why would it matter to you? You dont have to book a room. Also WEM would be a much better atmosphere, and possibly PGL could contact that LAN center in wem, and they would be willing to sponsor stuff / allow for practice in there? Or is that place closed now? - It was by the warhammer shop / galxyland

Because 2 of my teammates will be most likely staying in a hotel and I'm sure we'll be LANing some teams before/during the event and it'd be a lot easier to just take the elevator upstairs to the room instead of driving however far to where they're staying. Plus after our games I wouldn't have to be carrying my headphones, controller, and hard drive around the mall. I could just go toss it in the room.

Okay. I mentioned that about the Ramada because the original plan was to have PGL there and if it is not help in the WEM I assume it would be there.

PGL Winnipeg was in a hotel and it was sick for those reasons. You also get to know everyone a lot better. However, PGL has a huge opportunity to expand with the WEM if done correctly so you cannot blame them for having it in the WEM. (In my opinion.)

It's on the rocks right now. Waiting on the day to be announced, and how much money and time Kyle spends on this league he's creating here in Winnipeg. We shall see, first off we have to find out when this thing is!

If it is in WEM, Staying at the WEM Inn is basicly the same price as you would have to pay anywhere else, because of taxis and such, also i dont see why a deal couldnt be made with WEM in terms of competitors room rates at the Inn? In that case everyone would stay there and you would have the best of both worlds.

Man, please do not get astros, I spend hours upon hours giving people the facts about headsets and headphones, yet people still only look at the sponsor. They are such garbage. The only thing I would ever buy from that site is the mixamp and Y adapter.

Not really. And if you do buy x1's, send an e-mail to turtle beach claiming that your dog chewed your earpads for your x4's or something like that. Make some excuse to why you need replacement x4 earpads they will tell you no but reply 2 or 3 times and they will make a "special case". The ear pads are 2 bucksw each and make the x2's 1000x better in terms of comfort.
