View Full Version : Which games to have at the next PGL

Okay guys, here's what Chelack and I are thinking. Halo 3, Modern Warfare 2, and Street Fighter 4 are all locks for the next event. However, we also wish to have some other games. We would like to have one sports game, probably either NHL or Madden, as this attracts a different crowd of gamers to the event, including casual local gamers. Also, if there's enough demand we will include Gears but as of right now it will not be included; turnout at the last two PGL events for the game was too low.
Halo 3 is automatic, only question here is whether or not to upgrade to the Mythic Multiplayer Discs in order to use MLG v7 settings. Modern Warfare 2 is so damn popular that we would be stupid not to include it, however there are some complications with how it works on LAN. We will hopefully figure those problems out and include this game. Street Fighter 4 has a huge following, and this is a big opportunity for PGL to bring in a whole new crowd of gamers.
Anyways, the rules for this poll are:
PLEASE VOTE ON ANY AND ALL GAMES YOU WOULD PLAY AT THE NEXT PGL EVENT. IF YOU VOTE FOR OTHER, PLEASE SPECIFY WHICH GAMES IN PARTICULAR.

Halo 3 - What more can I say?
Modern Warfare 2 - Should bring out a lot of people... the games huge.
Street Fighter 4 - Huge following in Edmonton... more peeps!
NHL 10 - Sports game, and its the best sport. :D
Edit: Wait? whats wrong with modern warfare 2's LAN capabilities?

Are you talking about no split screen?

No, basically heres whats wrong with MW2 LAN:
- Theres no pre-lobby like there is for online, so people have to hop into games mid session
- Theres LAN rank the same as online rank, meaning participants would need to have LANed enough to get to level 70 to have all the unlocks
These are both pretty big problems

If you can figure out a logical solution for the MW2 problem you HAVE TO include it in the tournament. Even though I wouldn't personally be playing it I'm positive if kids (even if they don't game that competitivey) knew about a tournament like this they'd be stoked to go. I would even start up a facebook group like "MW2 tournament in Edmonton" and I guarantee it would draw a huge crowd.
I would also love to see NHL 10 there, but I'm not sure if I would be personally playing in that either. I'm going for H3, so I want to be completely focused on that.

Oh..........
Thats terrible.
Is your split screen offline rank the same rank as LAN?
and people can just join the game after someone starts it. Everyone is going to be playing right near each other at the tournament, so just tell everyone not to do anything until everyone is in the game.

I have been getting really good at this game called "Learn with Dora" wondering if you could add it to the poll.
I dont play SF4 so i hope all that hype about it in the forums does the trick. Whoever plays this shiza online should just have a list full of canadians and when the event is announced just recruit the masses

You guys should probably have a fighting game in the line up, especially if help is already being offered.
MLG V7 is a must.
MW2 Would be sick but the lack of a lan lobby messes up its chances big time unless PGL set up a closed circuit internet connection in the venue witch i highly doubt they will.
Street fighter Would bring ALOT of people In my opinion but anyone that plays this game on a top level will tell you is HAS to be played on the play station. Does PGL own Ps3s? The game has alot more move-lag and map-lag on the xbox then on the ps3 witch affects alot of the characters combo's/Moves. (especially: Akuma, Sagat & Sakura) witch is why its ONLY played on the Ps3 at any top level tourny. if PGL does plan on holding a SF tourny they better advertise witch console it will be played on because it will effect the amount of people that attend. I will still attend and play if its on the xbox but i know some people wont.

I doubt PGL has PS3's, and I doubt even more that there going to buy any.
Heres a question for event staff.
With the release of Super street fighter 4 said to be early march, Will it be played instead of the current street fighter 4?
Here (http://iplaywinner.com/superstreetfighter4) Is a link to everything thats been added and changed in the new version.

Your so wrong about the xbox vs ps3 for sf4.
Both systems are the same, some player claim they can't make links as good on one system or the other but this has been disproven multiple times. It has been proven that the ps3 version runs like a fractions of a millisecond faster than the xbox version but since the game runs at 16.67ms/frame and 60frames/second this difference is negligable and has NO effect on gameplay whatsoever. There have been many tournaments run on xbox 360 around the world, from basement tourneys to regional majors with hundreds of players.
Xbox console's are fine.
Edit: The lastest version of SF4 will be used

A little late on this but I'd really like to see Gears of War 2 return if PGL were to do another event. It's the only other game to have been hosted at every stop on the MLG 2009 circuit besides Halo3 of course. Before diving into MW2 I'd wait and see what MLG does with it first. Instead of switching games to raise interest I'd confirm a date a few months in advance to leave more time for word of mouth to raise interest.
Thanks for your time:

yeah i would like to see gears there, being from edmonton, and knowing a few people from edmonton who play the game on a daily basis, and myself who used to play on a daily basis would definetly attend for that. 5-7+players for gears definite...
I GET called a randee
just a note - for MW2
you can use your live account rank with all the unlocks you have.
The only problem is as you stated there is no prelobby. But if there was staff they could watch the first couple seconds of the first round to regulate it. Honestly its not a big problem, Ive been to a few tournaments for it and it works fine.

If you look at the post dates, note the forms dead.
