View Full Version : How fast is your internet connection
Just wondering who their service provider and how fast your internet connection is....... I use Access and have 10Mbps...... you can check your connection here..... im at about 9860kb/s....
www.speedtest.net (http://www.speedtest.net)
acccess is flawed... you might see those results on random speed tests but when alot of people get on in the neighborhood you'll see that drop as low as 2000kbits/s. i do int support for sasktel and i never ever base speeds off of speed tests, the load it puts on your connection isn't the same as a regular download would be.. smaller packet sizes etc... i'm on sasktel extreme and i'm usually getting 1200kbytes/s... so if i download something it downs at 1200k.. i think the connection speed is like 14mbit/s. as soon as they get around to adsl2+ we'll see speeds of up to 24mbit/s

Access Light ftw. I think my speed is like 1488kb/s .
Tiki you are so right in that I can be on the internet at 6pm and not even get it to work, but be on at like noon and it's the fastest i've ever seen it.

Shaw works for me. I'm streaming a video right now from the internet and I have 3 computers and a wireless xbox 360 all on my router.
The first time i ran it i got some weird results my Ping was 7.. i had like 14,000 KB/s Download and 90kb/s upload.

That is not a good thing about you're provider.

but my upload is normaly around 600
i just got a letter from access saying that I use too much bandwidth and they are going to restrict it if I keep using as much as I am

You want a lower upload... apparently Someone told me.

The upload rate is lower because the majority of people do not upload files or run websites that thousands of people are accessing. This allows the bandwidth to be used more efficiently for the normal user who simply surfs the net, game, and download files.
I wonder how much of difference my 300miles farther away from Calgary has in that speed test compared to everybody else who posted?

You're kind of supposed to click on the host in the closest proximity to you're home. Not calgary.

no its good to have a high upspeed, its what gets you host in H3 and H2. most people have a low upspeed becuase uploading isnt something people do alot of. I do I upload around 1gb a week compaired to nothing from the normal person.
its a combination between upload and download that determins host. as well as location and ping response between individual connections. 99% of the internet is downloading. the only uploading comes from filesharing (and by that, i don't mean pirated software, i mean any time you want to share something you have with someone else). and its not really because the provider doesn't feel you need this bandwidth, its that as soon as you start carrying strong upload speeds across a network, the download speeds drop.
and, access WILL cap you if you go above 30 gigs downloaded/month... save yourself the greif, switch to sasktel... i think high speed extreme is half price for the first 2 months.... its 10down/1up
