right
don't play with low levels in your party. xp is based off gathered levels and they tried to lean away from boosting by lowering the xp gained by wins when you have a mixed party.

My buddy and I are playing team slayer together a lot but he's rank 15 and I'm rank 30. I figured that maybe playing with me against people who are double his rank would rank him faster if he did well but he doesn't. He does pretty well in the games but doesn't rank up near as fast as I thought. In fact he ranks up and down the same as me. Their system is weird.

100+ Double Team Games played, and had only lost two close call games.
Yet, I am only 35 in Double Team. Something must be wrong...

This is true. I played with a lvl 35 in TS and he had a better K/D ratio in a few games and jumped 8 lvls before i went up 1

The Actually Ranking Structre Has A Multitude Of Different Things That Effect The XP
1. Number In Party-
If you have a team of 4 going into TS Then You Will Recieve Less XP From Those Games Bungie Understands That Carrying A Random Is Harder Than Going In A Rape Party also you will lose less when you go in with smaller parties
2. Repeatative Partys-
If you go in With the same party Bungie Recognizes this And will Decrease The total XP Amount Gained Per Win But Will Triple the Xp Lost
3. Officer Rank-
Generals Verses Captains Forget about it Double Xp And Almost No Xp LOST BUT ALL THIS IS VOID WHEN GOING IN WITH A REPATATIVE To4
4. Level Rank-
aka Boosting but it works best when you go in parties of 2 But Your Best Bet Is to Go in With Someone Close To Your Level
5. MVP-
KPD doesnt really matter promise where as MVP Does Itts Bungies Crappy Picture of Whoever has most kills is the best player
6. Winning Streaks-
The More You Win The Faster You Go Up But Again All this is void when Going In With the Previously Mentioned Things
So thats the break down yah
To Prove My Point on Repeatative And 4's And Levels Go to The Following Link

Yes Its My Secondary Tag And No I was Stuck At A Level 20 until I started going in with a different Party And Different Variations Of That Party
Basically We Won Over 50 Games In A Row And I Stayed The Same But Look Closely At (Here Oh) He Stays a level 6 or 7 the entire time i say WTF Bungie Cause My KPD is Out The Roof
Anyways Hope This Helps LOVE YOU ALL Sorry I dont know more about the Lone Wolves Ranking Structure
bungie has posted twice that both MVP and officer rank has no immediate effect on gametype ranking. the ranking system is managed by the halo 3 leveling structure, where as the officer ranking is based upon Xbox Live TrueSkill ranking.
